Baystate Health - D'Amour Center for Cancer Care, Springfield, MA Harry Grodsky & Co., Inc. performed the mechanical and plumbing scope for this 65,000 sf Cancer Center on a Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) basis. The building houses four linear accelerators, two CT scan rooms, an HDR room, 20 exam rooms, 36 infusion bays, a café, office/administrative space, a patient education area, a satellite pharmacy, conference rooms, a teaching kitchen, and an administrative/medical record room. Detailed CAD Coordination was essential to fitting the various mechanical systems into the tight spaces available for them, while avoiding conflicts with other trades. The project's location in downtown Springfield also created challenges for material deliveries, equipment rigging, and other logistics. The construction process for this project was accelerated, but thanks to a well organized and knowledgeable construction team – including the construction manager, engineer, architect, owner, and key trades – the project went smoothly and was completed on time and under budget with significant added value to the owner.
