The Energy Networks (TEN), Cogeneration Plant, Hartford, CT
Harry Grodsky & Co., Inc. was hired by The Energy Networks Group as the Construction Manager to bring a group of skilled professionals together to design and install a cogeneration facility within their existing plant in downtown Hartford, Connecticut. Construction began in April of 2009 and was completed in October of 2010, under budget and two months ahead of schedule.
The Cogeneration Plant consists of a gas turbine capable of producing 3.8 Megawatts of electricity and a heat recovery steam generator capable of producing 85,000 lb/hr of steam at 225 psig. Roughly 60% of the electricity that is produced powers The Energy Networks' chiller plant which distributes chilled water to buildings throughout the city of Hartford, while the remaining 40% is sold to Connecticut Light & Power. The steam that is produced is distributed to and fulfills the heating needs of more than 50% of the businesses throughout the downtown area. |
