Baystate Health, Hospital of the Future, Springfield, MA Designed for LEED Silver Certification Baystate Health has initiated a 15-year master plan for Baystate Medical Center, the largest medical facility in Western Massachusetts. Harry Grodsky & Co., Inc. is working on Phase 1 of the plan, which is the construction of a 638,000 sf clinical facility that will house a new cardiac and vascular center and additional inpatient beds. Harry Grodsky & Co., Inc. is responsible for the complete plumbing and HVAC scopes, which include: • 2000 tons of mechanical cooling capacity • Over 50,000 MBH of heating capacity • 118 pieces of motorized HVAC equipment • Over 860,000 CFM of conditioned air The most notable feature of the efficient mechanical design is the use of a CDQ dehumidification system which is able to efficiently meet the humidity control needs of the operating rooms, effectively eliminating the need for the construction and operation of an additional 200 ton low temperature chiller plant.
