Deerfield Academy, Koch Center, Deerfield, MA
LEED Gold Certified
The Deerfield Academy Koch Center is an 80,000 sf Science, Math and Technology Center that opened in the spring of 2007. The building was built as a Green Building utilizing recycled materials and a grass roof. Some of the unique aspects of the building include a planetarium, state of the art laboratories and an astronomy viewing terrace.

Harry Grodsky Co., Inc. installed the HVAC and Plumbing systems in the building, which consisted of air handling units, VAV boxes, radiant heat, snowmelt systems, and waterless plumbing fixtures. The most unusual aspect of the mechanical installation is that the mechanical equipment is located on the first floor and all air and water distribution is fed down into a mechanical tunnel and then rises up within the walls of the classrooms. Inside the classrooms there are no visible air termination devices. All air is distributed through plenums located at the base of the walls.
