High Performance Building
Western New England College has had three geo-thermal projects on campus, all of which have been designed and constructed by Harry Grodsky & Co., Inc. In 2009, we completed the latest: Southwood Hall, a new, 4-story, 56,000 sf, eco-friendly, apartment-style residence complex.

As the Design Build contractor, our main focus was to conserve energy, reduce emissions, and conserve water. Although this building did not pursue LEED certification, the HVAC and plumbing systems were designed and installed to be "LEED Certifiable". In addition to ground source geo-thermal heating and cooling, other systems installed included energy recovery systems, solar collection for the domestic hot water system, a storm water reclamation system and low flow fixtures.
